COLOR COMBINATIONS:
Autumn Option One:
Watercolours - Harvest
DMC pearl cotton #5 - ecru
DMC pearl cotton #5 - 367 green
DMC floss main color - 920 orange
DMC accent color - 758 peach
Autumn Option Two:
Watercolours - Fiesta
DMC pearl cotton #5 - Ecru
DMC pearl cotton #5 - 924 teal
DMC floss main color - 920 orange
DMC floss accent color - 3045 gold
MATERIALS NEEDED:
9" x 9" piece 18 count mono canvas
9" x 9" stretcher bars
1 skein each of threads from your combination (5 total skeins)
#22 tapestry needles
Regular stitching supplies.
The Autumn Palette:
The color combination for the autumn palette in this geometric stitchery made Debbie Stiehler think of colorful fall leaves, pumpkins, dried corn stalks, warm days and cool evenings.
The Basics:
l. Design size is 5" x 5" square.
2. Design will have a 2" border of canvas.
3. Each line on the graph represents one canvas thread.
4. To stitch each quadrant of this design, turn the graph and not the canvas to keep all of the stitches crossing in the same direction.

Area 1.
Work the smyrna cross stitch with 1 strand of ecru DMC pearl cotton. Refer to schematic and master chart for placement and chart at right for numbering.

Area 2.
Work this area in diagonal mosaic stitch with 1 strand of #5 pearl cotton in main color.

Area 3.
Again, work in diagonal mosaic stitch according to the chart. Use 6 strands of DMC stranded cotton in main color.
Area 4.
Work the slanted gobelin stitch as charted. Use 1 strand of Watercolours. Each of the Watercolour threads has at least three different hues. These three hues can be stitched in a controlled manner for very pleasing results.

Area 5.
Work slanted gobelin in the prescribed manner according to the chart. Use 6 strands DMC stranded cotton floss in main color.

Area 6.
Work Hungarian stitch. Use 1 strand of Watercolours. Do not stitch with the same hue (within the Watercolour thread) as the pearl cotton #5 main color.

Area 7.
Work the Rice stitch with 1 strand of DMC pearl cotton #5 in main color.

Work Continental stitch using 6 strands of DMC stranded cotton in accent color.

Area 9.
Cross stitch with 6 strands of DMC stranded cotton in main color.

Area 10.
For the border work padded flat stitch. For Step A use 1 strand of DMC pearl cotton in #5 main color. Charts at bottom right show steps A and B. For Step B use 1 strand of Watercolours.
