Silk Pageantry

Based on the geometric stitches from the classic reference book A Pageant of Pattern for Needlepoint Canvas, written by Shirlee Lantz and illustrated by Maggie Lane, this course is designed to teach the student how to choose pattern stitches for successful fit into geometric design areas. All of the stitches used in the project are from the book, but they have been re-drawn and revised for this course; it is not necessary to own the book to participate in the course. Extra stitches are included in the instruction book for experimentation and future enjoyment.

The project showcases these stitch patterns at their best - using silk and metallic threads. Previous experience with silk and metallic threads is not required. The project includes several different silks and metallics, and handling instructions are given for each. A color photocopy is included for close-up detail of the stitches.
