Cloisonné Lily

Cloisonné Lily is a study of optical shading with silk by mixing the strands in the needle. The prime leaf is padded, then overstitched with satin stitches. Couched gold braid creates the cloisonné look. A deep shade of Medici wool and metallic braid create the base of the blossom cupped in a rich green satin stitch that is tied down in matching silk. Long stitches of white Medici wool are tied down and accented with Smyrna crosses to create the textured background, giving the design a soft, aged appearance, while the silk and metallic gold central figure draws the eye with its luster.
