Goldwork Oak Leaf and Acorns
The distinctive leaf of the beautiful white oak tree (quercus alba) and its acorns are worked in traditional raised goldwork utilizing several techniques of invisible attachment. The falling leaves are worked with an asymmetrical blackwork pattern in silk and gold. There is sufficient Congress cloth and silk to change the overall design size to fit various sizes of box tops or picture frames. Materials include pearl purl, three sizes of bright check, broad plate, and overdyed silk, in addition to other items. Techniques include blackwork, invisible couching of pearl purl, chipping and parallel laying of check, and broad plate technique.
