A study in couching stitches, laying silk, and couching metallics. A network of fine gold couched with a colored metallic creates wings of melicate, weblike structure outlined with a twisted gold. The body s made up of pattern couched gold and diagonal satin stitching. The stylized flames are comprised of a couching stitch using laid gold with silk and metallic overstitching worked in opposite directions to create an illusion of different stitches. The crest is long straight stitches of fine red metallic and Japan #11 gold. There is no border to imprison the rising Phoenix.
