The Tall Oaks Sampler is a vibrantly colored sampler that may be diminutive in size but is filled with many intricate embroidery techniques to more than challenge the sampler enthusiast. The verse at the top — “Tall oaks from little acorns grow ” — is rendered in Latin and translated to English at the bottom. Twenty-six different stitches are used to enhance the traditional sampler motifs. Freeform stumpwork, blackwork, and cutwork bands (including dove’s eye, needleweaving, and attachment of seed beads to make a unique way of working withdrawn thread) are methods included in this sampler. |
