This class is directed toward the student who would like to learn how to identify good design, as well as the individual who would like to begin designing original work. Each of the three lessons consists of readings in the text, paper and pencil exercises, the preparation of notebook pages, small stitching exercises and 'thread play'.
Lesson One covers the vocabulary and the elements of design. Lesson Two covers the principles of design. Students will apply the principles in various ways to the elements learned in Lesson One. Lesson Three explores the design process as applied to pictorial and non-pictorial (geometric) compositions, and also covers unity. A section is included on sources of inspiration.
