Optional Finishing Choices
Students wishing to use the design for a sewing box will also be required to purchase a wooden box as an additional item. The original box used for the model was a Carol's Fancywork box from Sudberry House that has since been discontinued. However, these boxes may still be available at your favorite needlework store, retailing for approximately $65.00.
A new manufacturer has been found who has enthusiastically agreed to produce custom made lacquer boxes to size for this design. These boxes are crafted in the centuries old tradition of hand pouring multiple layers of lacquer. The process evolves over several days and several layers of lacquer to create a luxuriant, gleaming patina that is not only beautiful but also scratch resistant. The cost of the lacquer box is $150.00 plus $8.00 additional postage. Orders for this box must be placed at time of registration, with shipping to follow in May or June.
Students also have the option of providing their own box for the project.
