Dorothy Lesher’s Starlight Waltz

CLASS DESCRIPTION

Dancing through a starlit night to the joyous rhythms of the waltz, our lady wears a jewel encrusted silk dress richly shaded in optical shading (mixing thread values in the needle) and metallics. The skirt flares exposing a colorful underskirt of looped Turkey work forming a fluffy edge to the diagonal Florentine. Stitching of the gown is compensated to the design lines of the flowing scarf that overlays the skirt creating a channel into which the silver braid of the scarf is couched. The line for the encircling star trails is thread traced (basted) through a parchment paper pattern that is supplied as part of the kit. The paper is torn away leaving the basted line on the canvas. This basted line is removed after the stars are stitched leaving the canvas free of a drawn line.

Face and features of the lady are hand painted by the Dorothy. A generous supply of materials is provided to complete this design.

Starlight Waltz is stitched on a 16” x 18” piece of pale blue Congress cloth. The finished design size is 11” x 13”. Threads used include silks, metallics and cotton floss.

The kit is required for this workshop. The kit includes:

  • Instruction book

  • Canvas

  • Threads (except the floss for hair)

  • Beads

Join Dorothy and stitch your own starlight waltz.

The Cyber chat list will be available until the end of the month.

The "classroom" for the ANG CyberWorkshop will be a dedicated e-mail list where the teacher will post the lessons (text only) and students can post questions and comments about the class. In addition, the teacher may post visual aids (stitched samples, expanded charts, etc.). The e-mail list will be created after registration closes. Based on past experience, the amount of traffic on this e-mail list varies throughout the class. At the beginning of the class, students can expect to receive more than a dozen messages on some days. As the class continues, there are usually significantly fewer messages. The class fee includes access to the dedicated e-mail list. Because the class lessons will be posted to this e-mail list, students participating in an ANG CyberWorkshop must have a unique e-mail address.

Please note: a minimum level of computer knowledge is required. You should know how to use your e-mail program and how to access a password-protected Web site. ANG is not responsible for teaching these skills.

You will be getting e-mail from the teacher, the angel, and other students in the class. You may not recognize the e-mail addresses from which the messages have been sent, but all will have a subject line that clearly identifies the message as being part of the CyberWorkshop. DO NOT put blocks on any of these addresses. If you do not wish to receive the CyberWorkshop messages at your regular address, please set up a separate account at one of the free Web-based e-mail services, and make sure that the Class Angel has that address.

Registration ends on March 31, 2012. The first lesson will be posted on june 1, 2012. This will be a five-month workshop. There will not be a critique at the end of the workshop.
