Sandra Arthur’s Ladybug Tea

CLASS DESCRIPTION

Ladybug Tea is a happy and colorful project. Students will be provided a canvas that is line-drawn and partially painted on #14 Zweigart mono canvas. The cut canvas size is 14”x16” and is to be mounted on stretcher bars for best results. The actual design area is approximately 11.5”x13”.

A wide variety of stitches and techniques will keep those stitching fingers busy and the mind focused. Some stitches included are the packed stem stitch, staggered chain, alternating square Rhodes, mosaic, padded satin, Victorian step, cashmere and more. Techniques involved include needle weaving, combination stitches, creating ribbon rosettes, couching threads and couching ribbon with oblong cross stitches.

Students will have the choice of using threads from their stash or purchasing from their local needlework shop. A complete materials list will be provided. While the changing of colors is very limited and not really recommended, there is some flexibility with the borders on which the little ladybugs are travelling. The yellow background could become blue to offer a sky effect or a darker green or brown to offer a landscape type effect. Threads used on the model to help create dimension and texture include Caron Watercolours, Anchor or DMC Cotton Floss and Pearl Cotton, Rainbow Gallery: Splendor Silk, Fuzzy Stuff, Treasure Ribbon, Precious Metals and Linen, YLI Ribbon Floss and Shimmer and sewing thread.

Additional embellishments include size 8 black seed beads for spots, brads for rosette centers and 3/8” red ribbon with black dots for borders, rosettes and bow for the Ladybug.

This fun project is broken up into six manageable sections. Each month for six months a new section will be provided and discussed. Detailed written instructions will be enhanced with clearly marked illustrations and diagrammed stitches for ease of execution. This is an intermediate class but with patience and by following the guidelines most needle workers will be able to complete the project with no trouble at all.

Ladybug Tea registration will be open from January 1, 2015 through February 28, 2015. The workshop will start May 1, 2015.

Join Sandy to stitch your very own colorful Ladybug Tea.

The instruction book is included in the registration fee and will be sent electronically. See materials list for the list of threads that were used to stitch the model.

The class will be done totally electronically and printed copies will not be available.

Schedule for Posting of Lessons:

To give students time to work each portion before the next lesson is released, lessons will be posted on May 1st, June 1st, July 1st, August 1st, September 1st, and October 1st.

The Cyber chat list will be available until the end of the month.

For details on threads and other supplies, see the Materials List Page.

The "classroom" for the ANG CyberWorkshop will be a dedicated e-mail list where the teacher will post the lessons (text only) and students can post questions and comments about the class. In addition, the teacher may post visual aids (stitched samples, expanded charts, etc.). The e-mail list will be created after registration closes. Based on past experience, the amount of traffic on this e-mail list varies throughout the class. At the beginning of the class, students can expect to receive more than a dozen messages on some days. As the class continues, there are usually significantly fewer messages. The class fee includes access to the dedicated e-mail list. Because the class lessons will be posted to this e-mail list, students participating in an ANG CyberWorkshop must have a unique e-mail address.

Please note: a minimum level of computer knowledge is required. You should know how to use your e-mail program and how to access a password-protected Web site. ANG is not responsible for teaching these skills.

You will be getting email from the teacher, the angel, and other students in the class. You may not recognize the email addresses from which the messages have been sent, but all will have a subject line that clearly identifies the message as being part of the CyberWorkshop. DO NOT put blocks on any of these addresses. If you do not wish to receive the CyberWorkshop messages at your regular address, please set up a separate account at one of the free Web-based e-mail services, and make sure that the Class Angel has that address.

Registration ends on February 28, 2015. The first lesson will be posted on May 1, 2015. This will be a six-month workshop. There will not be a critique at the end of the workshop.
