Questions About the American Needlepoint Guild
The AnswersCan I use information posted on the ANG Web site in my chapter newsletter?Yes. All the material on the Web site is available to the public, so it is certainly appropriate for you to use it in your Chapter newsletter. The material is copyrighted by ANG, but permission has been granted for ANG chapters to reproduce it in newsletters. Can I use information posted to ANG-list in my chapter newsletter? No. The material is owned by whoever posts it and permission from the poster is required. Most posters are happy to give this permission, but you must ask before you use the material. Why is my Needle Pointers late, and what do I do if I don't receive it?Needle Pointers is published in the odd-numbered months, and mailed third class through the US Post Office. (First class is very expensive and would require close to a substantial dues increase.) The letter carrier is only required to deliver so many pounds of second and third class material a day. All first class mail is to be delivered first, then second, then third. When the bag gets full, the remainder stays until the next day. If the next day arrives and the bag is too full again, there are two days worth of undelivered mail along with your Needle Pointers, waiting to be delivered. Once a month, everything is supposed to be distributed. If you haven't received your issue by the 15th of the month of publication (e.g., if you haven't received the May issue by May 15), contact membership@needlepoint.org with your name, complete current address, and membership number (if possible). They will see that a replacement copy is promptly mailed to you. Please note that if you miss issues because you moved and did not update your address with national ANG's membership office, those issues cannot be replaced. However, back issues can be purchased for $5.75 each. For more information on purchasing back issues, click here. What is the difference between a Correspondence Course and a CyberWorkshop?Courtesy of Ann Blalock Correspondence Courses are classes that you receive in the mail. As of the new Education Directory, an individual can register for any of the courses at any time, and you don't have to have online access to take a course. There is a time-limit for completion which depends on the course. If you complete the coursework within the time limit, you may submit your work to the teacher for that course and receive a written evaluation of your work. Online, ANG will be featuring courses every other month, with new courses spotlighted on even-numbered months. There will also be a dedicated mailing list for each course which will begin the day the course is featured online and run for six months. You will need to subscribe to that list (to join the dedicated mailing list for the featured online CC send an email to cconline@needlepoint.org with your name, email address and the CC class name), but anyone who has taken the course, is currently taking the course, or who is thinking about taking the course, is welcome to join the list. The list can act as a support group as you work your way through the class. Usually you won't have postings from the teachers; the text for the class is supposed to stand alone. CyberWorkshops are another educational opportunity, not to be confused with Correspondence Courses. CyberWorkshops do require online access. New courses are open for registration for two months only, with a new class starting on odd-numbered months. You are automatically included on the dedicated mailing list if you register for a CyberWorkshop. There are usually online visuals to supplement the text as well. You are encouraged to communicate with the teacher and each other on the list. There is no written evaluation from the teacher if you complete the project, but you do have the opportunity to interact via the class list with that teacher. The newest opportunity you can enjoy from the comfort of your own stitching nest is the Workshop by Mail. This is a Seminar quality project for which you register and receive the instructions--then you are on your own. You can stitch it immediately, stow it in the stash, get together with others in your chapter who also signed up for it--however and whenever you want to stitch it are up to you. The Workshop by Mail is posted in both Needle Pointers and on the ANG Web site, so that everyone in the Guild has the opportunity to enjoy the courses, whether you have online access or not. The use of the ANG logo is covered under an official ANG Policy 3.01. Basically, the name " American Needlepoint Guild, Inc." and the ANG logo graphic are the property of and for the exclusive use of the national organization. Chartered chapters of ANG may use the name and the logo graphic on various materials, including, but not limited to, stationery, newsletters, yearbooks, name tags, totebags and mugs. If a chapter wishes to use the name or the logo, the chapter name must be in letters equal to or larger than the type size used for "American Needlepoint Guild, Inc." The logo graphic may not be modified, altered or distorted in any way without approval of the Board of Directors. Any use other than by a chapter requires advance approval by ANG. Requests of this type should be sent to secretary@needlepoint.org. What is the ANG Chapter Project Booklet?
