Questions About the Seminar

The Answers

What is an Encore Class?

considers a class taught previously in any venue whether an ANG seminar or similar event, for remuneration, to be an Encore Class.

What is a Pilot Class?

A pilot class is a small group of people that have been selected individually, by the instructor, for the sole purpose of refining student instructions.

How does the Seminar Faculty Selection Committee (SFCS) pick seminar classes?

In the fall a request to submit proposals goes out to each instructor. In February, the SFSC meets to review all proposals on an independent basis. Each proposal is scored individually by each committee member for educational content, teaching goals, format and presentation. Each score is then averaged and the top proposals are selected for additional review. This process continues until the class selection is finalized. Classes are slotted into a schedule according to length, instructors schedule and seminar needs. On occasion more classes are selected than the Seminar location has classroom space to accommodate. This is done because, historically, a small number of classes do not meet the minimum enrollments, and every attempt is made to offer as many classes as the Seminar site can accommodate.

Why do registration procedures occasionally change, year to year?

As so often occurs in life, we discover a situation or procedure that could lead to an unanticipated glitch. Each year we endeavor to make the process of registration more efficient both for the member and the registrars. We ask our members to read thoroughly all material sent to them and proceed as instructed.
