"The Needlework Studio" by the late Louise
Meier is a project which replicates her studio at home.
As with all of Louise's designs, this project is a good
exercise in color, perspective, and texture.
The piece is worked on Congress cloth, but because it
is charted it could be worked on any size canvas (only
the amount of thread would change). The techniques used
are counted, surface, and diagonal Florentine stitches,
appliqué, needleweaving, attachment of objects and
lettering. The threads used are varied -- stranded
cotton, silk, wool, metallic, overdyed floss,
Wildflowers, linen, and Prisma. The spiral bound booklet
includes complete instructions and stitch diagrams. There
is also a picture of the original watercolor of the
project as well as a color wheel.
