Filling patterns provide the “resting area” for the eye in a heavy design and can be used to balance color and weight and unify areas. Students will create a valuable notebook of stitched filling patterns and work favorites on the canvas size that is the most comfortable. Students are encouraged to bring several canvas sizes and threads from their “stash" to explore squared fillings, evenly spaced fillings not on squares, and scattered fillings. This will be a boon to students who work with painted canvases or those who enjoy creating geometrics or other designs.

Proficiency Level: All

Design Size: 8½˝ x 11˝ page sizes

Kit Fee/Contents: $30; loose-leaf binder with filling patterns shown in colored charts with spaces for students to record their own experiments, as well as an assortment of threads, beads, and canvases.
