Design is the basis of any visual art form. The elements of design — line, shape, direction, size, value, texture, and, most tantalizing of all, color — are used in accordance with principles such as repetition, alternation, harmony, dominance, and balance. They apply to everything you do in needlework, from kits to original works, and you probably are using many of them by instinct! Whether or not you ever design your own pieces, you should know what constitutes a good design. This lively nonstitching, but very visual, class will lead you to that end.

Proficiency Level: All

Design Size: Notebook

Kit Fee/Contents: $65; extensive booklet, color wheel and gray scales, design papers, color scans of samples, design tools, and access to shared materials.
