Many of the stumpwork pieces of the great era of English stumpwork, the early 17th century, featured Centaurea Cyanus. This flower has several common garden flower names, depending on its color: the pink or the cornflower. A few lifesize, realistic, three-dimensional stumpwork blue cornflowers and their buds and leaves are worked in two lace patterns and centered in an elaborate Renaissance style frame on this formal piece. Four main families of techniques are covered in this class: lace making, traditional goldwork, silk ribbon, and needlepoint.
