The subject for this class, the iris, is a much-revered flower in Japan. The ancient Japanese technique of rozashi is stitched on a specially woven silk gauze fabric called “ro.” The threads are tightly twisted silk and a three-ply metallic. All are traditional to rozashi. The stitches used in this piece include the irregular stitch, straight stitches, the line stitch, step stitches, and the background stitch called Jizashi.
