Invitation from the Local Seminar Coordinator
The San Bernardino Chapter is thrilled to welcome everyone to the ANG Seminar 2008 in Indian Wells, California. The Hyatt Grand Champions Resort, Villas and Spa is about 25 minutes from Palm Springs International Airport and sits amid a spectacular desert landscape in a lush 45-acre oasis. Guest rooms are spacious, with lovely views of golf courses and surrounding mountains from their private balconies. The resort is close to famous El Paseo Drive in Palm Desert, also known as the "Rodeo Drive of the Desert," which features over 300 shops, boutiques, art galleries, jewelers, and restaurants. Between the offered classes and available tour opportunities, we are sure there will be something you will enjoy.
The Palm Springs area was a winter home to the Agua Caliente band of Cahuilla Indians for thousands of years because of the natural mineral hot springs. After the railroad completed its line through the desert and a 19-mile stone-lined ditch brought water from the Whitewater River into Palm Springs, the first hotel and tuberculosis sanatorium, The Desert Inn, was built. The Inn later became a world-renowned resort hotel catering to the rich and famous. Hollywood discovered the desert vistas and the curative waters as early as 1919. The surrounding desert was used first as a choice filming spot, and many silent stars of the era could be seen in town. In the 30’s and 40’s, the El Mirador Hotel and Charles Farrell’s Racquet Club were also popular attractions. Many stars built homes here, including Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez, and Dinah Shore. Former President Gerald Ford lived in nearby Thousand Palms for more than 30 years after he left office. No wonder the area was known as the "Playground of the Stars." Many streets are named after the resident celebrities.
We hope that you will make plans to come and stitch under the stunning desert stars with us. San Bernardino Chapter will have sleep shirts, caps, both long- and short-sleeved denim shirts, frame weights, and name tags for wonderful souvenirs from your trip to the desert. Come and enjoy the splendid vistas, stitching, visiting old friends, and making new ones at our "Stitching with the Stars." We can’t wait to see you!

Invitation from the Director of Seminars
This conversation, between two ANG members, has played in my mind several times:
"You know, why in the world didn’t I go to Indian Wells? I’ve heard that the hotel was superb like the Tucson hotel, that classes were wonderful, and that the Seminar was very friendly. I should have gone!!"
"Well, I went, and I am so glad that I did. I had two super classes, saw dear stitching friends, and also made some fantastic new friends."
Well, don't let that first member be you. Look through this Seminar brochure and don't just dream of the classes and the hotel. Get your registration in, on or before the Premier Registration deadline of April 7. The Registration Information, Registration Form and Registration Instructions have all been revised to make it easier for you to complete and for the ANG Registrar to process.
A special note about the class package fees and banquet tickets: One banquet is included in each package (except for the Bronze package), for the primary reason that eating places outside of the hotel are limited. When you choose a package, you will need to choose which banquet you want to attend, either the Welcome Banquet or the Awards Banquet. Then, if you wish, you can purchase an additional ticket for the other banquet. And be sure to take a good look at all the tours, which include something special, like a day at the spa. Seminar is always exciting, with the First-Timers’ Reception, the chapter and membership meetings, Needlework Expo!, Teachers’ Showcase, the Bookstore, the Boutique, and the Silent and Live Auctions. Thanks to Gina Wearin, our new Opportunity Basket Chair, the baskets will return with wonderful choices!
Along with the rest of the Board of Directors, I invite you to attend the Indian Wells Seminar. To me, all Seminars are very special; I hope to see you there!
