Stitch of the Month
September 1999: Plaited Square Diagonal
by Beth Robertson
The Plaited Square Diagonal is also known as the
Plaited Cross stitch or Woven Cross stitch. Note that the
last stitch (7 to 8 on the diagram) must be woven under
the first stitch (1 to 2 on the diagram). Work this
stitch in one color or with an overdyed thread for a more
dramatic effect. This stitch does not completely cover
the canvas so choose a thread color that complements your
canvas color. This stitch provides a lot of texture and
can be used as a single motif, as a border, or in a large
area.
