Stitch of the Month
April 2001:
Leaf Stitch

by Joni Stevenson

The Leaf Stitch is wonderful for trees, especially Christmas trees. It can also be used for bushes and wreaths, or as a single leaf on a tree. The stitch may be oriented upright (as diagrammed below), upside down or on an angle. When choosing to stitch the Leaf Stitch on an angle it may be helpful to chart out the placement of each stitch.

When stitching with a stranded thread, be sure to lay your stitches carefully, to achieve a very smooth effect. A denser thread, such as perle cotton or wool will produce a much denser, heavier effect.
