Stitch of the Month
August 2009: Sally’s Diamonds
by Tony Minieri

Stitch the horizontal stitches first then fill in with the slanted stitches. Turn the canvas ¼ turn when stitching the horizontal stitches so you can lay them properly.

When stitching straight stitches, it is usually best to stitch them vertically. You have more control over the laying of the stitch when it is in vertical orientation. Work the slanted stitches in horizontal zigzag rows.

This stitch can be used for clothing and backgrounds.

***Do not place a horizontal stitch in the outline of the cuffs. There is couching around the cuffs.
****When you hit the inner outline of the sleeve, break the stitch into two elements where it crosses his line so you can delineate this lien and backstitch it later. Do this for all subsequent pattern that hit either of these design lines.
