Stitch of the
Month
December 1998: Norwich Delight
by Beth Robertson
The December edition of the ANG Stitch of the Month is
a special holiday present to all our visitors.
"Norwich Delight" uses most of the stitches
that have been featured on this page during 1998 and
gives you an opportunity to try them in a small geometric
design.
To complete Norwich Delight, you will need:
- 7" x 7" 18 count mono Canvas
- 1 skein Impressions (variegated color)
- 1 skein Soie Cristale (to match Impressions)
- 1 reel Kreinik Tapestry (#12) Braid #002 (or to
match Impressions)
The finished design is approximately 3" by
3". Experiment with stitches and with colors; but
most of all have fun and enjoy! The creator of Norwich
Delight, Beth Robertson, and the members of the ANG
Internet Committee worked the design using a variety of
threads and colors. Take a look
at our results!
Use 1 strand of Impressions and 1 strand of Kreinik
Braid. Use the number of strands of Soie Cristale needed
to give you the coverage you want. Start by using 3
strands. Depending on your tension and ability to lay
threads, you may need to add or subtract strands. If you
are not happy with the way your stitching looks, change
the number of strands.
- Working from the center out, stitch the center
Norwich Stitch in Impressions. Refer to
the diagram following the Master Chart for stitch
numbering. Do not use the chart from the
October, 1998 Stitch of the Month as the stitch
used in Norwich Delight covers a different number
of threads.
- Do the first inner border diagonal Gobelin stitch in Kreinik
Braid and the Square Eyelets
in Soie Cristale.
- For the second inner border, work the Long Arm Cross and Norwich
stitches in Impressions, and the Scotch stitches in Soie
Cristale.
- The Herringbone border is
worked with Impressions and Soie Cristale. The Bound Cross stitches in the
corners are worked wtih Kreinik braid.
- The outer border Long Arm
Cross stitches over two threads are worked in
Soie Cristale and those over three threads are
worked in Impressions. The Norwich stitches also
use Impressions.
This chart is a very large file (525 KB) and
it may take a while to load. Please be patient -- once
you see the quality of the graph, you'll agree that it is
worth waiting for!
