Each of the stitchers whose work accompanies this discussion was asked to provide more information about his or her needlepoint. Click on either the name of the piece or the thumbnail picture to see the stitcher's commentary and a larger picture.

Expression in needlepoint takes many forms and encompasses many styles and periods. Mary Ackerschott's "Iridescent Pisces" is a lovely picture based on traditional Asian themes. Very traditional needlework such as Joy Mayer's "Rose Bouquets in Petit Point" exemplifies a time-honored approach to home decorating with canvas embroidery. The elegant "Two Horses and Groom" picture stitched by Beryl Fowles shows yet another approach to decorating with needlepoint.

Lovely garden scenes have long been a favorite theme as beautifully shown in Ruth Blum's "English Garden." There are many different ways of depicting floral pieces, as shown in Kathy Holman's "Romanoff Ribbons."

Seasonal themes are popular as demonstrated in the contemporary "Winter Frost" by Myra Liston, and the charming "Santa & the Mrs." which is a pendant stitched by Mary Lou Legler.

Whimsy is a favorite approach of many stitchers and Mary Lou Helgesen's "Great Aunt Fanny" is a wonderful example of both whimsy and three dimensional needlework. A different slant on whimsy is shown by Carl Newman in "Russian Fantasy."

Regional themes abound and Dorothy Mackowak's "Fog" is an outstanding example of a whimsical yet elegant depiction of the Chicago skyline and the fog off the lake.

With so many wonderful threads and embellishments available today, wearable needlepoint is a striking addition to any wardrobe, formal or casual, as shown in the insert to a denim jacket stitched by May Rosel.

An interesting example of function and form is seen in Fred Landis' "View from the Loggia" and "Musical Game Box" which contains a game board and a hidden music box inside.
