Russian Santa
| Stitcher: | Beverly Burgess, Louisiana |
| Designer: | Beverly Burgess |
| Location: | In the stitcher's home, next to her bed, first thing in the morning that she sees, the last thing she sees at night |
| Description: | Beverly started a doll-making class to spend time
with a friend who did not do needlepoint. After creating
six different types of Santas, she knew she had to create
one for a needlepoint costume. Beverly produced her local production of "The Nutcracker" several years back. One of the dancers in the ballet was the Russian High Dancer. After sewing the doll and working at it for months, she just knew one night that he was to be costumed after the dancer in the ballet. She started the layout the next morning and started stitching the boots that night -- June 1, 1997. The last stitch was completed on September 7, 1997. Beverly has waited seventeen years for this beautiful ribbon (first place Original professional category). It is her greatest joy in needlepoint to date. |
