Up, Up, and Away
| Stitcher: | Pat Van Cleve, North Carolina |
| Designer: | Designed by Pat Van Cleve, whose inspiration originally came from seeing the balloon festival in Albuquerque when returning to the airport from the 1990 ANG Seminar in Santa Fe. Additional inspiration was gained from a magazine photo. |
| Location: | Hanging in the new Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina |
| Description: | The Winston-Salem Hospice was building a new Hospice
Home and looking for art work that was uplifting. What
could be more uplifting that hot air balloons? If our
needlepoint is to be art, it should say something to the
viewer and Pat felt this work did that. It was stitched
with love for the people who would be spending their last
days under the care of Hospice. Pat has always liked texture and this composition became an exercise in the many ways to get depth in the needlework. It is always rewarding to create a composition satisfying to the stitcher, but the reward and excitment of having others appreciate it cannot be measured. "Up, Up, and Away" is stitched on 22-count canvas using many, many colors of DMC floss and Medici wool. |
