Jingle Bells Express Train

Stitcher: Nancy Horne
Designer: Joan Thomasson
Location: Occupying a place of honor in the stitcher's living room during the Christmas holidays
Description: Nancy happens to like standing, weighted needlepoint pieces. She and her finisher figured out a way to make this train (so far 8 pieces) fit the train track (N Gauge). Nancy purchased some train track at the local train store and some people to scale and set it up on her fireplace mantel. Perhaps some day she will use a circular track and set it up under the Christmas tree.

Nancy stitched this train because she loves trains and likes three-dimensional needlepoint as opposed to flat pictures for the walls and pillows. She also had 4 or 5 students who wanted to stitch the train so she designed a stitch guide for each piece. Nancy likes to pick a color for the background and do different stitches for each train car but using the same threads. In this case, she chose Medicis wool in a medium dark blue and a blue-lavender Kreinik metallic.

Nancy also likes to embellish her pieces as much as possible. She has included in these pieces bells, buttons, silk ribbons, beads and a multitude of threads and stitches. And these ingredients make needlepoint interesting to her and her students.

Train car #3 is almost finished. It is called the Reindeer car. It will be joining the train shortly! Next, Nancy and her class will be working on the caboose. There is also an Elf car, a Toy car, Sleigh car, and Candy car.
