Description: Sunset at Sunion is based on a photo Angeline took more than 20 years ago. Sunion is the southernmost point of mainland Greece and watching the sun set at the Temple of Poseidon is a major tourist activity ... as Angie and her husband discovered when they arrived there were already rows of people ahead of them, as shown in the foreground of the piece.

It was a wonderful memory, though, and it inspired Angie to paint the scene in thread, using only the tent stitch.

This piece was aimed toward Step IV of EGA's Master Craftsman program in color (it passed). Part of the criteria is to illustrate illumination and time -- so a sunset scene is an obvious choice. It is worked on 24-count Congress cloth, using 4 strands of cotton floss in the needle. This gave ample scope for blending of colors. With color as the main object, a plethora of stitches could just confuse the eye, so the small, smooth tent stitch was chosen to impart the serenity and joy of remembering the trip and the experience.
