| Description: |
The inspiration for this piece was a quotation: "Concerning flowers' dreams I will query the butterflies even though they can't speak." Reikan Pat constructed the box form from color washed Lugana fabric. Its sides are edged with buttonhole stitch and are laced together with cretan stitch. The stitching is raised work in a design that flows around the four sides of the box and onto the top. The focal point is a butterfly on the top with a body of couched silk roving and wired wings of needlelace and sheer ribbons. Near the butterfly is a fabric slip of French knots. The stitching on the sides includes couched twisted cords for vines, needlelace bird's nest, Ultrasuede leaves, applied rice paper and sheer ribbons under embroidered flowers. Wrapped deldrins are used for a few flowers. |
