| Description: |
We Three Kings is actually three pieces designed to be displayed independently or together. Pamela started by taking a weekend workshop with Amy Bunger in Hawaii for the first King. Since the second King had the back half of the camel, she also bought that canvas as well before the workshop was through. Then, of course, since she had the first two Kings, she had to have the third! These Kings were true travelers, much as their namesakes were on the first Christmas. Pamela was a sailor in the U.S. Navy, and they traveled with her for the year it took to complete all three. The first King was started in Hawaii and completed in Nevada. The second was started in Nevada, then traveled by automobile to Alabama, with a stop in Tennessee to pick up King number three. The third King was started in Florida, made a trip to Texas, then finally finished in Washington. Finishing the pieces was an adventure also. Pamela used a framer on the Naval Base who did much more work with military memorabilia than needlework. They collaborated and decided on a simple arched matting that matched the night sky background, with a simple wood and brass frame. The Kings were Pamela's secret pride and joy, until she brought them out to show at a Betty Chen Louis workshop. There, she was good-naturedly chastised by a local needlework judge for not bringing them out sooner and entering them in exhibits. Now Pamela is happy that other needle workers have had the opportunity to share in her well traveled Three Kings! |
