Claude, the impulsive frog, lives in a box in my home where I can keep track of him! |

Description: |
I
had previously designed a 3”x3”x2” canvas box, which I enlarged and
made it a pond.
The pond box together with my haunting memories of Monet’s
gardens at Giverny and my fascination with frogs and their ability to live
in water and breath air all came together as inspiration to create Claude,
The Frog, in Monet’s Garden!
It
was a challenge to solve the obvious problems of making a box look like a
pond while creating a three dimensional frog whose touch would make you
smile!
Contemporary materials like wire were used to create the water
lily, and I abstractly stitched the lily pad using one fiber and one
color. This
original three-piece set consists of a 4”x4”x2” box, a 4”x4”
lily pad and dimensional lily and Claude, the frog.
The top of the box represents water.
The sides are a continuation of my “stitch like Monet painted”
technique using only one stitch – the cross stitch – and twenty-two of
my Monet colors.
The lily pad is worked on 18/1 canvas with only one color of
thread, an overdyed green.
I abstractly stitched the overdyed green using counted-work
stitches, which blend into each other as the mood suited me. The
lily, a wired needle woven flower, appears to float on the surface of the
water.
Claude, a three dimensional frog worked on 18/1 interlock was
stitched using only one color thread giving him the feel of an amphibian.
Designing
and working the Claude, The Frog set was pure joy!
My creative designs usually do come from previous works of mine and
are connected to the Arts. |
