Description: |
As
a psychotherapist, I have studied with Dr. Klein at the Masterson
Institute and read his works for a number of years.
For the last two years, I’ve flown weekly between Florida and New
York attending classes at the Institute and working one on one with Dr.
Klein as my supervisor.
Dr. Klein is not only a brilliant theoretician and teacher, but a
‘mensh’ as well, which in Yiddish means someone to admire, emulate,
someone of noble character.
And, I liked his hair – the gestalt made a great caricature I
tried to capture in needlepoint!
I presented this piece to Dr. Klein on the occasion of a party in
his honor in May 2000 as he was taking a year’s sabbatical to write a
book. Dr. Klein, the psychiatrist “shrink” depicted, has a very distinctive look – his long hair and beard flow together in a halo like fashion. The piece was stitched with great affection for the subject. I enjoyed putting in every stitch. In fact, I made up the hair and beard stitch to satisfy myself since traditional stitches, like turkey work, didn’t give me the look I sought. My objective was to have fun and create a celebratory piece. |
