Description: |
I
wanted to do this class at the 1999 Seminar (offered at Callaway in 2000)
from the minute I saw the class proposal (which at that point was only a
colored sketch).
I loved the design, and I knew Tony's classes were great!
This design has an interesting combination of counted charted stitches and free form canvas embroidery stitches. The charted stitches in the figure are very intricate and compensation was a challenge. The face, which is an appliqué, was worked from a chart on #40 silk gauze and details of the features were added in class. The threads in the beard were attached with a wigmakers knot. The mountains in the background use the stitches in the class instructions, but I rearranged some positions and colors of the patterns. The tree, ground and cliff were stitched in free form style with blending and shading of colors. This allowed me to develop my own shading and stitch flow for the gnarled tree bark, grassy ground and rocky precipice. |
