Description: |
One
reason that we moved to Aiken, South Carolina, was the fact that there is
an enormous virgin forest within the city limits. There are walking trails
through this area and part of my life is walking among these giants. Some
of my time is spent discovering the finite natural world from an
artist’s point of view. This piece represents an entryway into the
forest at sunset when the colors are most clear and pure.
I wanted to invite viewers to enter this scene and enjoy these trees and the colors as I see them. Nature is a phenomenon so available and yet so frequently taken for granted. I stitched this piece to communicate a love of nature (and trees), to display the magnificence of color at sunset, and to share a part of my life experience with others. As with other things in life, during the development and stitching process there were exciting breakthroughs as well as some unwanted results. The final satisfaction is the story that unfolded while doing this piece: its birth, its foibles, and its path to its final form. |
