The purse is currently stored, except to bring it out to show to someone. If there is an occasion to carry it again, I will. I do plan on passing it on to my son’s family at some point. I also plan on entering it next summer in our local 4-H fair for judging. |

Upon
deciding about five years ago that I wanted to stitch purses for our
children’s weddings, I started looking for patterns. A local stitcher
had been in the pilot class for the purse and I had the opportunity to see
it. I immediately fell in love and knew that at some point I wanted to
stitch it.
While in Chicago I purchased this pattern and threads. I also decided I wanted to use pearls on the purse. That same year when my son asked me what I wanted for my birthday, I requested an antique or old strand of pearls so I could take it apart to use them on the purse, and that is exactly what I received. I took the necklace apart and used the pearls inside the large Jessica stitches on the front and back, as well as in a few other places. The following year, that same son announced his engagement. I started furiously stitching and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. I carried the purse at my son’s wedding on August 11, 2001. When stitching the purse, I changed the canvas color to eggshell, and changed the color of the outline stitches as well. I wanted a purse that was more ecru than peach. I also took advantage of the opportunity to choose kinds of threads and colors within each area. I was blessed to have Jan Anthony, from the Chicago area, put my purse together. Jan was also in the pilot class and had put Jean Hilton’s purse together. |
