Description: |
Eighteen
years ago my son Tommy rescued Freeway from the traffic on the California
101 Freeway, and that is how she got her name. This adorable kitten’s
eyes were just open and she required a great deal of tender love and care.
She thrived and became a member of our family. She loved to lie on
whatever I was working on at the time, and I often found her sleeping in
my knitting basket, on my current piece of needlework or near my computer.
She passed away last year.
Peter called and excitedly told me that he had an extraordinary canvas for me at his store. The minute I saw it, I knew it was meant for me to stitch. I stitched it with a mixture of sadness and smiles as I remembered our Freeway. The canvas reminded me of her so much, as a window full of sunshine was her favorite place to sleep. Everyone who sees my canvas of Freeway wants to rub or scratch her tummy. I feel that the blue ribbon and this canvas are a fitting tribute to Freeway, the Greatest Cat ever. While I was visiting this piece in my son’s store recently, a lady came in and wanted to purchase her. Of course, I gently said, in a firm voice, “She is not for sale!” |
