Rose Motif

Carole Lake

Pat Henek of Heartland House. This painted canvas was adapted from a stained glass window designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

“Rose Motif” is an exercise in shading, using the same and similar stitches in different directions to catch the light differently. Threads include Flair, Trebizond, Thread Gatherer Silk ’n Colors, Impressions, Splendor, J.L. Walsh Silk ’n Wool, Tiara, Kreinik braid, Neon Rays, DMC Floche and Watercolours. The background is worked in a variety of darning patterns. This demonstrates how you can achieve complex, subtle shading not only by changing threads, but also by manipulating stitches.
