Usually
I visit a canvas several times before I make a decision. Not so with the
Bird Lady. Her lovely serene face and red hair, the beautiful cranes—I
guess you could say it was love at first sight.
The Bird Lady was a labor of love. She had found a place in my heart long before I knew where she would live in our home. Susan Portra, a talented designer who teaches canvas embellishment classes at My Friend & Eye, created the stitch guide. That and the threads used brought this canvas to life. Being a redhead, I love the color of silk used to create her hair. Light reflects beautifully off the waves and curls. Occasionally I would meet Kay, a fellow Point To Point member and also a redhead, for an afternoon of stitching at My Friend & Eye, and so the Bird Lady became known to me as Mary Kay. Once I finish stitching Myrna Loy and Norma Shearer I’ll bring her home to join them. As you can see, I like to give my ladies names. |
