Description: |
I saw the painted canvas in the ANG shop at the Washington, D.C. seminar and fell in love with it. I immediately started thinking how I would stitch it. I decided that if it was still there the last day of the seminar, I would buy it. I added the Kokopelli in the upper right corner to personalize it. I used Medici Wool and Rainbow Linen for the robe to give it a realistic look and chose the Nobuko stitch and slanted brick stitch. These are simple stitches that fit my concept of the piece, and I could rotate them to give the robe a sense of flow. For the division lines between the colors, I used floss in a wrapped back stitch to make the line smooth and subtle. I mixed floss with overdyes to give the adobe wall subtle shading and used the Bunger stitch to simulate bricks. Needle Necessities had a wonderful range of overdyes that matched the colors painted on the canvas. I left the division lines on the wall unstitched to make them recede. The Kokopelli was stitched in basketweave with floss. The sand was stitched in four-way continental using a Weeks Dye Works overdye. |
