This
piece has been a favorite of mine since the first time I saw it in my LNS
(Local Needlework Shop). The magnificent painting of Kris against a black
background was one of the most beautiful canvases I had ever seen. It was
very challenging to translate the beauty of the canvas into a finished piece
through stitching. I spent many hours thinking and looking at the canvas as
each section came to life.
He was a joy to stitch and he is a very welcome addition to my gallery of
needlepoint pieces. I would like to give a special thank-you to the three
people who inspired my interpretation of “Kris Kringle.” Susan Portra has
been my mentor for several years and taught me to bring realism into my
work. Tony Minieri has taught me the importance of proper perspective when
developing a piece. Jean Taggart taught me the technique that I used to
stitch Kris’s eyes.
I thank all of the people and stitchers who have viewed and enjoyed my
“Kris Kringle” and I hope that he is an inspiration to those who enjoy
stitching as much as I do.
