In "Pajaro Dunes Threadscape" I was interested in exploring a stitched interpretation of several scenes at Pajaro Dunes Beach in California, where friends have a condominium they graciously share. My threadscapes are my visual travel journal memories of favorite places.

Working from my own photographs taken at Pajaro Dunes during a weekend stitching retreat with several friends, I sketched several vistas of the beach, the condo from the beach and the ocean view at sunset from the condo. I couldn't decide on a single piece, so I placed several together in a picturesque grouping.

To create the canvases, I drew a few guidelines from the sketches onto the ground fabric. In this piece I have used Congress cloth, which I like for the detail and texture that I can get from a variety of threads. The needlework stitches were chosen to result in a realistic representation of the scenes. My intent is that the viewer would believe each scene to be a picture or photograph -- until seeing the piece close up.
