I liked the whimsical folk art-type chickens in this design. However, the designs were kitted for cross-stitch pillows on 14-count Aida cloth, and the hen and rooster were separate kits with similar but not exactly matching borders.

I stitched both designs in tent stitch on 22-count Zweigart Cordova canvas so I could get both hen and rooster in the same piece. I adjusted the borders and the colors of the background to make one complete picture. Besides tent stitches, the borders include slanted Gobelin and half Scotch stitches.

I used the cotton floss that was included in the kits for the chickens and borders. But the background was done in Splendor silk from Rainbow Gallery. The metallic in the kits was not suitable so I used #4 Coronet Braid from Rainbow Gallery instead.
