This needlepoint is a rendering of a life-size painting by Ms. Linda Scott, a well-known contemporary artist. The picture you see is 16.5" x 40" done on 18-count congress cloth. I used four strands of DMC embroidery thread. The project took about six months to complete. I chose the painting as I choose all my subjects - I see an interesting painting, poster, photograph or other rendering and just can't wait to see if I can reproduce it in needlepoint. My favorite type of subject is portrait art. The challenge is to reproduce expressions and eye contact. All my works have loving homes with friends and family across the country. The Masai Guardian has won Best of Show honors at the Marin Quilt and Needlepoint Art Show and the California State Fair. It also won Second Place at the 2004 ANG Exhibit. |
