This is a wonderful piece designed by Debbie Stiehler. I worked this piece on my own. I loved the piece and I did change the colors to peach and teal. I also changed the threads from cottons to silks. There were many different types of stitches in the piece, including Pulled Thread, Florentine, and Laid Filling stitches. I learned to design my own Cartouche. I used flat Peyote beading on canvas and Circular Peyote beading; also beading on a loom to form the spokes of the fan. The beading was done with Japanese Delica Beads. I had quilted before, but combining it with needlepoint was exciting. The Sashiko Quilting on the silk background fabric with batting and backing fabric was fun and then to appliqué the canvas fan onto the silk made a beautiful presentation. The Chinese Double Coin Knot using Kreinik Torsade in both silver and gold finishes the piece and represents prosperity and longevity. And, as Debbie said in her instructions, "you need prosperity to pay for the class and longevity to finish the piece". |
