When I was in the Navy, I was stationed in Fallon, NV, 60 miles east of Reno. I was cross stitching at the time and was unaware of the magic of needlepoint until I went to a local shop in 1993 and saw a model of Gleneagle on the wall. Not knowing what to do with it, I bought the booklet and put it in my stash. Two years later I discovered needlepoint and learned all that I could about my new passion. When I pulled the booklet out of my stash, I knew that I wanted a much smaller version than the model on 14-count mono canvas, didn't want to use cotton, and none of the suggested color combinations spoke to me. So I chose congress cloth and silks in a cream/olive green/salmon color palette and began a labor of love that took me about three years to finish as I worked on it off and on. I am very pleased that I was able to finish it and enter it in the exhibit in Reno as it was coming home so to speak. Gleneagle is now in my bedroom, where I wake up to the soothing colors each morning. |
