Triple Flatirons.
Jagged rocks slanted skyward.
Great Plains' abrupt end.
In Flatirons I am interested in capturing a realistic stitched interpretation of these magnificent front range mountains in Colorado. I intend that the "threadscape" should have the appearance of a photograph when viewed from a distance.
Linen threads are used to achieve the texture of summer's dry great plains. The mountains are created in layered ultra suede, painted to reflect the slight pinkish hue of the rocks.
An enjoyment and appreciation of the beauty of nature and natural forms is the motivating force behind my designs. Essentially I paint with thread, creating the illusion of light, shadow, perspective, and texture through thread and stitch selection and placement. I use needlepoint to record memorable places and experiences much as others use travel journals, photo albums, and sketch books. My Haiku adds to the awareness of the place.
