Aurora, the winter bear, is a sampler of textures, threads, and patterns stitched on 22 separate pieces of Congress Cloth to form a huggable whole. I wanted viewers to first see the bear as a whole bear, then as a celebration of the season, and finally as a collection of designs and images in silk, hand-dyed wool, floss and metallics. The train on the bear's front continues around her waist to the caboose on the back. The snowy village scene also wraps around the bear to unify the design. |
