NAME: Pamela D. Pabst
DESIGNER: Sophia (painted canvas)
This piece sat in my closet for several years after I purchased it from a local store that was going out of business. I knew I wanted to do something very dimensional but it took me quite a long while to work up to the Turkey Work in her coat and hat. I used approximately three pounds of Paternayan Persian Wool - which was stitched in Looped Turkey Work, trimmed and sculpted. I trimmed so much wool "fuzz" the vacuum bag had to be replaced! As with all "face" pieces, I stitched the eyes first. It always seems to me that stitching a "face" piece without the eyes is rather "rude"! Besides, once the eyes are done the piece can "speak" to you! The background on this piece was already painted in the swirling design stitched but I chose to use a very light touch, stitching the same pattern stitch for each swirl but using a very thin perle cotton, allowing the background color to show through.
