Rose Bouquets in Petit Point
| Stitcher: | Joy L. Mayer, Louisiana |
| Designer: | Adapted by Joy L. Mayer; the bouquet is from a graph in a 1985 issue of the Dutch magazine Ariadne |
| Location: | In the stitcher's home |
| Description: | Joy wanted to create something that she could put in
competition for the Princess Grace
Award. She wanted to do something in traditional
needlepoint for the "gout" footstool she had
purchased. Joy enjoys working from a graph and loves
roses, ribbons, and monograms, so she combined them in
this piece. Because she wanted a black background, Joy had to paint the canvas in those areas. Black on black is rather difficult to see on #22-count canvas. This is the second black backgound Joy has stitched -- and this is the second time she has sworn not to do it again! |
