In addition to the honor, many talented stitchers who win ribbons take home another work of art.

Even the ribbons were beautiful, thanks to Joan Miner and the Oregon chapter members who designed and stitched centers for the ribbons. All centers were stitched on congress cloth with either silk or cotton floss and touches of metallics. The great northwest, of course, served as the main source of inspiration. First place awards were given to two separate groups: professional and non-professional.
- The first place ribbons were a miniature of the seminar
design by Mary Ellen Sand and adapted for the ribbon
centers by Janet Maguren. Stitchers were Evon Bergstrom,
Cindy Carter, Barbara Despain, Carol Elworthy, Annie
Harrison, Jackie Kerr, Rosemary Lane, Gemma Preece,
Dordene Strecker, Sally Vomocil, and Jann Williams.
- The Delegates' Choice ribbon showed the "tools of
the trade" designed by Norm DeLue and stitched by
Cindy Carter, Ann Bradley and Norm. People's Choice was
designed and stitched by Kate Fagan.
- The Washington State Award was designed and stitched by
Sharon Hull and Nancy Shaffer. The Princess Grace Award,
a glowing rose with a plaid background, was designed and
stitched by Joan Miner.
- Judge's Choice ribbons were adapted by Cheri Cross from
the name tag design of the Mt. Rainier Chapter and
stitched by Cheri, Ethel Ball, and Margaret Burroughs.
- The Best of Show ribbon was designed by Charlotte Powell
and stitched by Charlotte and Suzi Smith.
- The Ann Spiess Mills Award for best angel was designed by
Marilyn Wimer and stitched by Marilyn and Joan Butler.
- The Tish Holland Award for best use of embellishment
contained a northwest totem designed by Kaye Parsons and
stitched by Kaye, Jeanne Schaudt and Elizabeth Bozievich.
- The Barbara Mayo Grass Award for the best use of design
is the product of Margaret Turner and was stitched by
Margaret and Jean Nelson.
- The Mary Fry Award for the best use of color was designed
and stitched by Gail Weber.
- All of the ribbons were assembled by Marilyn Wimer.
- A special thank you goes out to all who worked so hard to give us such a beautiful presentation of the award ribbons.
Memphis Exhibit, 1996
The award ribbons were beautiful and the centers were stitched with flair.
- First Place ribbon centers were small scale replicas of the project stitched by Dorothy Lyon for the Seminar Issue of Needle Pointers. The design was sketched by Amy Bunger and initially stitched by Kathy Holman. Other First Place ribbon centers were stitched by Mayme Lazenby and Joy de Leveaga.
- Delegates' Choice, stitched by Carol Whitton, depicted the river walk at Mud Island, and People's Choice, stitched by Karen Templeton, displayed the theme of Memphis music.
- The State Award, also stitched by Carol Whitton, showed the center of the state flag.
- Claire Adelson stitched the Tennessee state flower, the Iris, all in tent stitch, the stitch preferred by the Princess herself, for the Princess Grace Award.
- Kathy Holman, Jo Hopper, and Susan Sturdivant stitched the three Judge's Choice ribbons with displays of cotton bolls to represent King Cotton.
- The Best of Show ribbon, by Stacy Riggs, showed the Memphis skyline.
- Each of the special awards was represented by the seminar logo, the Mallard duck. These centers were stitched by Amy Bunger, Jan Butler, Pam Bregenzer, Virginia Ruhl, and Kay Tomlin.
- Special thanks to Amy Bunger, Joan Crofton, Dorothy Lyon, and Joan Gantt for help with stitch enhancements, color selection, and ideas for design. And, many thanks to all of the dedicated people who so generously volunteered time, talent, and skill to stitch the remaining ribbon centers.
