FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. What do I do when a guest wants to join our chapter? Provide her/him with a copy of the new member form explaining the payment options, encourage her/him to complete the form while at the meeting and offer to mail the completed form. If they choose to write a check for National dues, you may send that with the paperwork. If they choose to use Visa or MasterCard, they need to write in the necessary information. They will, of course, pay the chapter dues separately.
2. A member-at-large wants to join our chapter. What do I do? You will need to verify that their National dues are current. Alert the Membership Office of their chapter affiliation so they can be added to your chapter roster. The same procedure applies for someone wanting to change their primary chapter designation. When accepting chapter dues from plural members, it is also necessary to verify that they have paid National dues.
3. A member reports that she didn’t get the current issue of Needle Pointers. What do I do? Verify the renewal date on the Web site. If there is a discrepancy, e-mail the Membership Office to resolve the problem.
4. A member writes a check to our chapter for payment of National dues. Can I send it to the Membership Office? No, please. We strongly encourage you to have the member write a check made out to “ANG, Inc.” and mail it. We do understand the desire to be helpful however it is important to remember a key reason for the change: each member becomes solely responsible for getting her/his dues in by the renewal date. Please return the check to the member with a gracious explanation.
5. What methods of payment are available? Members will see three options on their invoice: check, charge, or online payment via “PayPal.” Credit card payment must be done in writing and can be mailed or faxed to the Membership Office. The Pay Pal option is available on the ANG Web site www.needlepoint.org and can be done electronically.
6. A member doesn’t know her renewal date. You will have the current roster and you can remind them that this information is always printed on their Needle Pointers mailing label.
7. A chapter member doesn’t want to write two checks. Explain that this new method will ultimately simplify the procedure for collecting dues and will put the control of paying dues on time in the hands of the members. ANG has had continuing problems with dues not being received by the renewal deadline, memberships expiring, and Needle Pointers and/or the Seminar publication not being printed for those members. Although this may not have happened in your chapter, it is a very large problem.
8. A chapter member threatens to drop her/his chapter membership. There are so many wonderful benefits that come from belonging to an ANG chapter: monthly programs, workshops, show and tell, field trips, the newsletter, and the fellowship and stimulation of chapter members. Take the time to tell the member how much you value their membership in the chapter. It is always nice to be reminded that you are an important part of your chapter.
